The Bandit A&R Newsletter
Bandit is a monthly publication designed to help musicians target their demos and press kits to music businesses (labels, publishers, managers and production companies) actively searching for new talent. Every month, the newsletters feature 24 companies, both in the UK and in the US. The newsletter is $30 (US) per year, and based on the testimonials, a good investment. A sample copy of the newsletter is available on request.

Frederick Rossille: Piano Scores
Frederick Rossille is a diverse composer whose work has appeared in numerous films as well as on stage, television and radio. Currently, two of his complete scores are available at the above link. The scores are in *jpeg format, and easily accessible.

Historical Tunings on the Modern Concert Grand
This interesting article from the U.K. piano page, provides a brief history on tuning and "Temperament." Temperament involves the process and result of making slight changes to the pitches of a pure musical scale, so that the octave may be conveniently divided into a usable number of notes and intervals. Throughout history, there have been several different approaches taken to temperament. Different temperaments create different sounds, and in most cases, tuning in one direction creates a sacrifice to tuning in another. Fascinating reading for those interested in the workings and history of their instrument.

Masters of Classical Music: Sheet Music
The Masters site is primarily dedicated to classical MIDI files, but you'll also find a few free downloadable scores. Currently these includes several of Mozart's Minuets as well as two marches by Johann Sebastian Bach.

Museek.net
Museek.net, based in Australia, was established in 1996 to create a professional online venue to aid unsigned artists in their search for distribution and marketing. In terms of a promoting and distributing your music, Museek offers two programs: one free program, and one VIP program. In both cases you, as the artist, benefit from Museek's own advertising, but with the VIP program you get much more attention in terms of personalized marketing assistance. As for the site, well, check it out for yourself. The design is top-notch.

The Online Conservatory
Here's a breakthrough in technology...LIVE online piano lessons. That's right, for $15 Canadian you can have a 30 minute live piano lesson with a teacher from elsewhere in the world! Using NetMeeting and NetSessions, you'll have both visual and audible access to your teacher. That's not all, if you're a teacher looking to try something new and different, the Online Conservatory is hiring.

Raintree: Audio and Graphic Services
Raintree offers a number of services for the musician including recording, pre-mastering, editing, CD manufacturing, mastering and duplication. While Raintree's manufacturing prices are very reasonable (1000 CDs, $1299 for the works), but the service they provide that sets them apart from most other manufacturers is their willingness to run very small quantities. For example, you can run 50 CDR's (including full color on-disc print and jewell case) for only $175. That's a great price for a small run. Other services include graphic and web design (well worth checking out), broadcast spot recording, and location recording. Raintree is a great solution for any musician looking for assistance getting their project organized, packaged, and out the door.

Virtual Sheet Music
VSM is dedicated to classical sheet music and offers a small but impressive collection of music from selected composers. While most of their complete scores require a $5 download access fee, VSM does offer free downloadable demos from Chopin, Brahms, and Beethoven. All music is carefully catagorized by composer, instrument, ensemble, category, or skill level.

Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour
If you're an independent, folk/acoustic artist listen up! Woodsongs is a weekly radio program dedicated to new, grassroots independent artists from around the world. The show features interviews, live performances by new artists, as well as CD releases by major acoustic artists like Shawn Colvin, Pete Seeger and Keb Mo. Woodsongs has a large list of affiliated radio stations across the US, as well as Canada, Hungary, Poland, Australia and and others. New artists are invited to submit material to appear on the live audience, national broadcast of the show. Here's a great opportunity for the right artist.
