PIANIST RESOURCE REVIEWS
========================
Musicians and Injuries
Many musicians deal with sore joints, tendinitis, carpal tunnel, and even the elusive fibromyalsia, but few musicians
really talk about it. This site is essentially a resource center for musicians suffering these conditions. You'll
find everything from suggestions to dealing with the pain to suggested books, tapes and online articles. If you
suffer from chronic pain of this nature, you'll want to bookmark this site.
Piano Sonata's Mail Order Shop
If you're looking to purchase a collection of great piano music, check out this mail order
shop. This shop, run from Seoul, Korea, featured boxed collections of CDs and LPs from numerous Russian Pianists,
including Richter, Nikolaeva, Pletnev, Bermann, Kissin, Bunin and other famous and historial pianists. The music
includes all the greats and frankly, the prices are outstanding. Each box of 30 CDs sells for $210, and you can
mix or match the CD's from the various boxes to create your own collection if you like. Scores to accompany the
music are also available.
Rare Find: Fine Piano Showcase
Here is an outstanding site for any pianist looking to buy or sell a used piano. The site includes a completely
searchable database as well as an online price guide. In addition, keep your eye out for auctions on pianos their
owners must sell quick.

INDIE RESOURCE REVIEWS

TAXI
We thought it about time we reviewed TAXI once again to see what they've been
up to. TAXI has been around for a long, long time, working as a middle-man of sorts between unsigned artists and
music industry insiders. For a fee (you have to pay to be a member) TAXI will review your material, and then if
they think it appropriate forward your music to an A&R rep at a major music label. Over the years, We have
seen considerable debate among independent musicians as to how effective TAXI really is as a vehicle for getting
your music out there. Personally, we think they are legit, but we also think that too many musicians pin their
hopes on TAXI as being their "way in" to the music business. TAXI is just another means to get your music
out there, it's not a sure thing... no where near it. But, if you've got the cash, and you have the confidence,
it may be worth a try. Only you can make the decision as to whether your music (and your ego) is ready to take
the chance. At least one TAXI member has put up a web page
documenting his experience with the company that is well worth checking out if you'd like some help making your
decision. So, what kind of music is TAXI looking for? That's easy, just check out thier industry
listings, updated twice a month. TAXI actually has a wonderful web site with some great content for musicians.
Even if you decide not to become a member, you'll find some great resources here, including a musician referral
service, interviews with A&R insiders, musician tips, a Q&A column, and TAXI's music industry forum. Regardless
of your opinion of TAXI, they provide some great services for musicians, so do your homework and check them out.
Best Unsigned Band Competition
Musician Magazine is sponsoring their annual "Best Unsigned Band" competition for 1999. Entries are accepted
from all music genres. Contest judges are composed of both A&R reps and producers from such labels as Arista
& Mercury Records. There will be six first prize winners. First prize is a $15,000 prize package including
extensive coverage in Musician Magazine, inclusion on the "best of unsigned bands" compilation manufactured
by Atlantic Records, and "The Musicians Guide to Touring Promotion." One winner will also take home a
complete custom drum kit, their choice of guitars, a microphone package and a 1,000 CD duplication package. There
is a $19.95 processing fee, but the opportunity for exposure makes this a good investment if you have confidence
in your work. Deadline 12/31/98. Good luck!
