Simon Apple - Vocalist Needed
Normally we don't post "musician needed" ads but this looks to be such a great opportunity we thought it appropriate. Simon Apple is a band from the Philadelphia area that has been favorably compared to Sting, Steely Dan, Genesis, Dave Matthews, Marillion, etc. Simon Apple was invited to perform at the First Union Center in Philadelphia for both Elton John shows in late September, and again for both Billy Joel shows in early November for "pre & post concert events". The band has also performed pre-game & half-time shows at Vet Stadium for Philadelphia Eagles games, as well as opening for such acts as Kansas, BTO & Grand Funk. The band is looking to secure a record deal and has had inquiries from about 30 labels (including majors). Presently weighing national distribution options. If interested, please send promo (tape/CD, picture, bio, etc..) to:

Best Unsigned Band Competition - There's still time!
Musician Magazine is sponsoring their annual "Best Unsigned Band" competition for 1999. Entries are accepted from all music genres. Contest judges are composed of both A&R reps and producers from such labels as Arista & Mercury Records. There will be six first prize winners. First prize is a $15,000 prize package including extensive coverage in Musician Magazine, inclusion on the "best of unsigned bands" compilation manufactured by Atlantic Records, and "The Musicians Guide to Touring Promotion." One winner will also take home a complete custom drum kit, their choice of guitars, a microphone package and a 1,000 CD duplication package. There is a $19.95 processing fee, but the opportunity for exposure makes this a good investment if you have confidence in your work. Deadline 12/31/98. Good luck!
